Debra Mullin received her Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology from Southern Illinois University. She has over 20 years of experience as a Speech and Language therapist and has worked in all settings from outpatient to hospital to home care. She is certified for LSVT LOUD (for low volume speech) and the SPEAK Out program from the Parkinson Voice Institute. Both are evidence-based treatment approaches for people with PD.
Debra specializes in disorders of swallowing, a common impairment that can occur in Parkinson's and related diseases. She is certified for both VitalStim with (external electrical stimulation therapy for swallowing) therapies and is able to incorporate the use of SEMG with VitalStim Plus. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation helps recruit and re-educate muscles in the process of swallowing.
There is increasing evidence supporting the efficacy of cognitive rehabilitation interventions and cognitive stimulation programming. Debra provides focused cognitive-linguistic evaluations and provides rehab strategies for home exercises, individual and group therapy. Debra provides treatment via 1:1 sessions, telehealth and through group activities including both LOUD Crowd and Sing out Loud.
Outside of work, Debra enjoys time with her two children and husband. She loves cooking and experimenting with new recipes.
