Melanie Lomaglio brings over 20 years of clinical experience to her patients at STARS and demonstrates a lifelong commitment to learning so that she can provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based care for her patients. She graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, a Master of Science (MSc) in Neurological Rehabilitation from the University of British Colombia in 2005, and most recently she completed her clinical Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (t-DPT) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2017. In 2010, Dr. Lomaglio joined an elite class of clinicians when she became Board Certified in Neurology (NCS) by the American Physical Therapy Association and was re-certified in 2019. She now specializes in the treatment of people with Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s related diseases. She has been certified as a Parkinson’s LSVT BIG clinician and now a Parkinson’s Wellness and Recovery (PWR!) certified therapist and instructor; both programs are specifically designed for people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD). She recently partnered up with Harley, a highly-skilled facility dog that knows more than 40 commands and works alongside her and her patients. For example, Harley can “tug” and “hold” a therapy strap while a patient holds on to focus on their core strength and stability.
Her passion at STARS is to improve the quality of life of people living with PD. In addition to creating novel individual and group therapy programs focused on agility and whole-body mobility, she facilitates the St. Augustine Parkinson’s disease support group, which offers patients and caregivers free year-round educational resources and social support via monthly meetings and partnerships with local health care providers.
Dr Lomaglio has a long history of mentoring and teaching and she was a full-time assistant professor at the University of St. Augustine for 12 years. She currently travels around North America as a Parkinson’s Wellness and Recovery (PWR!) faculty member teaching other therapists how to best treat people with Parkinson’s disease.
Melanie resides in Saint Augustine beach with her husband, David (founder of STARS rehab), and two children, Ryan and Ella. She enjoys running, volleyball, and horseback riding. Her personal accomplishments include competing in the 2002 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
